This is what we are about!
We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water the seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise. We lay foundation that will need further development. We provide yeast that produces effects far beyond our capabilities. We cannot do everything, and, there is a sense of liberation in realizing that. This enables us to do something, and do it very well. It may be incomplete, but it’s the beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest. We may never see the end results, but there is the difference between the master builder and the worker. We are workers, not master builders. Ministers, not Messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own.
What a challenging adventure we had this year in Joyabaj, Quiché! We entered the mission with only 2 optometrists, 2 ophthalmic assistants, 2 medical doctors and many supportive team members. Working together for about 13 hours a day to restore vision and provide eye care for 734 gracious and humble Mayas. Compared to less than 100 patients last year with 3 optometrists and 2 fourth year optometry students. We also diagnosed and referred about 110 cataracts and 40 pterygium surgeries in just 5 days to the surgical team the following week.
I am so grateful to be serving along side with these awesome group of angels. There’s definitely no “I” in this great TEAM!
Enjoy some great photos we took during our mission.
